psychologists, counsellors, social workers, family therapists and case
managers are

Adult Outpatient Services utilizes brief, short-term therapy to respond to the mental health needs of individuals. Group, family, and marital therapy are offered in addition to individual psychotherapy. AOP provides services that enable the individual to return to his/her normal routine as soon as possible.

Child and Family Outpatient Services is a brief therapy-oriented program providing treatment to children through age 18 and their families. While treatment is child-centered, the importance of the family as a resource and source of support is recognized and utilized as an essential element of intervention.

The underlying assumption of HSC's housing program is that clients who have unsuitable living conditions can be expected to experience greater difficulty in establishing or maintaining good mental health and that it is part of the Center's mission to respond to the individual's need for housing. To that end, the Human Services Center offers a variety of programs and services in the area of housing.

Horizon House provides housing and intensive day treatment programming for up to eight clients. Horizon House addresses the needs of clients with an extended history of mental illness, and is part of Pennsylvanias "Community-Hospital Integration Program" (CHIP) which promotes de-institutionalization.

Brighter Visions is a school-based partial hospitalization program for children, ages 6-12, who are experiencing behavioral problems at school, home, and in the community. Brighter Visions combines education and behavioral health treatment. Teachers, aides, and mental health therapists work together to maintain the child within the school, community, and home. A staff psychiatrist is available for on-site services for the children and families and consultation with staff. Family members are important to the comprehensive treatment each student receives.

Therapists in the Student Assistance Program (SAP) work with teachers, counselors, and administrators to identify students who may be having emotional problems. Staff consult with school personnel on approaches to helping such students. Providing on-site mental health assessments and accessing services from other agencies is also arranged through the SAP program.

Therapists provide intensive, comprehensive services within the home and community to assist families in caring for children or adolescents with severe behavioral and/or emotional problems. Using a strength-based approach, staff work in partnership with parents to provide counseling, case management, and crisis intervention services. The staff accommodate the family's needs by providing services during "non-traditional" hours.

Intensive Case Management (ICM) services are reserved for adults and children who have a serious mental illness. Intensive case managers have a limited caseload which enables them to develop a close relationship with clients. Supportive counseling and day-to-day assistance on a wide range of issues are provided. Staff also act as advocates in assisting clients in gaining access to needed services.

Crisis Intervention staff are available to respond to psychiatric emergencies seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Crisis intervention workers cooperate with local police and area hospitals to respond to psychiatric emergencies, conduct on-site assessments, and, if necessary, facilitate the hospitalization of the individual.

HSC provides intake, evaluation, and case management services for individuals with developmental delays and mental retardation. The Center serves as the "point of entry" for individuals who are then referred to other agencies such as the Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens and LARK Enterprises for services and long-term care.

The Resource Case Management program ensures that while in treatment, clients are apprised of other services such as drug and alcohol counseling. Staff maintain a close relationship with other service providers to ensure that services which may be of benefit are accessed by Center clients.

The Human Services Center provides psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults. Board-certified psychiatrists conduct diagnostic evaluations, prescribe and monitor medication, and consult with staff on treatment plans. Licensed and registered nurses work with Center psychiatrists to deliver medical services.

The purpose of the Pinnacle Partial Hospitalization Program is to provide daytime treatment and education to adolescents who have a moderate to severe difficulty in their interpersonal relationships. The aim of the program is to eliminate or reduce the emotional/social difficulties, which interfere with the adolescents ability to function in their home, school, and community.

The Mobile Medication Services Department of HSC is available to individuals who have difficulty managing medications on their own. The service provides support, education, and skill building for individuals to become independent and responsible for their medications.
