Crisis Intervention Services are immediate, emergency-oriented services for adults or children and their families who exhibit acute problems related to disturbances in thought, behavior, mood, or social relationships. The services provide a rapid response to crisis situations which threaten the well being of individuals or others. Crisis intervention includes assessments, counseling, screening, and disposition/ referral services.
Services
Telephone Crisis Counseling is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. HumanServicesCentermaintains a separate crisis telephone line, which, during business hours, rings directly into the crisis intervention office. After hours, the crisis phone line is forwarded to a cellular phone, which is carried by the on-call crisis worker. The crisis telephone number is 652-9000.
The Crisis Walk-in Service is an on-demand, clinical service provided by the Crisis Intervention Unit at HumanServicesCenter. Walk-In Services are available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at HumanServicesCenter, 130 West North Street in New Castle. Services include assessment, crisis counseling, and information/referral. Mobile Crisis Intervention is a clinical service available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is designed to put a mental health clinician at the site of a crisis situation in order to provide assessments, counseling, crisis resolution, referrals, and follow-up. Mobile crisis services may be requested by calling the crisis telephone line at 652-9000.
Program Coordination HSC’s crisis intervention services are integrated with all of the Center’s clinical programs. Staff respond to crises that may occur in one of the Center’s 16 residential programs or any of the Center’s clinical areas including family based, partial hospitalization, mobile medication, student assistance, and medical services. The director of the crisis intervention has also developed interagency affiliations with all of the local police departments, the probation/parole office, the county jail, judges, district magistrates, behavioral health organizations, inpatient facilities, the LawrenceCountyEmergencyOperationsCenter, and every social service agency and school in LawrenceCounty. Center staff also chair meetings of the local Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team. Interagency training is coordinated by this department on a variety of crisis intervention topics including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and stress debriefing.
Crisis Staff
Staff members in HSC’s Crisis Intervention Program have, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences. The director of the program has an advanced degree and is a licensed social worker. All staff members have completed specialized training in crisis intervention.
